Fishing Report: Rudee Inlet 09MAY13

I headed out to Rudee Inlet yesterday around 4 PM  got to the launch at owls creek around 4:45 and in the water at 5. I knew I was only going to be in the water for a couple hours since I didn't have my VISIpole but that was fine. I was targeting Specks for the TKAA May tournament but couldn't get anything to bite. Started throwing a Rapala Saltwater X-Rap Glass Ghost. Had a nice hit and it took to the surface! Started reeling it in and he didn't like that at all. The drag started screaming on my Battle 2000. Got em to the boat and I was surprised it was only a 16 inch blue.

16 Inch Blue

Damn alright, so the blues are in. I switched to a Battle 4000 on my Allegiance Rod and threw out a Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow (Red/White). This is my go to lure from Blues and Specks to Big ole' Striper. By far my favorite crank-bait. Upon switching to the Crystal Minnow I landed 5 nice fish in the 16-20 inch range. All the sudden BAM!!! Hooked up. This brute was going straight down and rod bent. I couldn't figure out what it was. It was a slow and stead pull like a nice size drum, no head-shakes or "freakouts" like blues do. I got it close to the boat and saw it. A NICE SIZED BLUE, my biggest blue to date and biggest of the year. Got it up to the boat after a couple attempts and finally landed it. 26.75 inches or 27 I like to say lol.

It was a gorgeous day and freaking good time to be out. Mind you the bugs and mosquitoes are out in force so be sure to bring some big spray. Now that the weather is getting warmer im sure everything is going to heat up. Tight Lines!!!!
