Hot Ditch March 2014

Had an awesome time hitting up the Hot Ditch with my buddy Hal. We decided to launch at 0530 and see what the Ditch had in store for us. Neither of us had done any saltwater fishing this year and needed to get out on the water. Plus I needed to slime my new Hobie Pro Angler 14 with some Salty Fish.

Luckily the weather and the fishing was cooperating so we started out by trolling a gulp swim mullet (white) and casted out a MirroLure slowly working it along the bottom. Almost instantly the Mirrolure gets slammed and my drag goes off. 30 seconds later and I have a nice Red Drum in the boat.

I started to make another pass and tossed out the Gulp again, I swapped out my lure with one from bass pro shop. This time I get a subtle hit on my new lure, its an Offshore Angler brand but I dont know the name of it. Anyway, I get a subtle hit and its my first Speck of the year! Last year I only caught 1! Then my other rod starts stripping drag! A double header, the gulp trolling produced my second speck of the day! Both at 18 inches and healthy.

I continued to troll and cast my twitch baits, it was a great day and produced 7 fish in total for the 5 hours we were out. 3 Speckled trout, two at 18 inches and 1 at 12 inches. I caught 4 Red Drum all ranging from 21 inches to 24 inches. It was an awesome day and my buddy Hal also got to test out his New Hobie Oasis and came out with 2 speckled trout for the day.

Here is a quick video on the trip
