First Stripers of the Year

It is good to be back!!! I finally am back on the water after a boring two months. Its  been a pain in the ass for those two months. First had PRK corrective surgery for my eyes and then tons of work comes up means no play to get out on the water. At last I got to get out and the first day was a total bust!!!
I launched out of Ft.Monroe with Joe, Phil and BB on the 16th . It was very unproductive. We fished for maybe 6 hours circling the island using hard baits, soft, gulp, cut everything and anything with nothing to show for it. Around the five hour mark I caught a tony oyster toad and said time to get off the water.
Not to be daunted by the near skunk I decided to head out with Patrick and hit Norfolk side HRBT the 17th.
I was expecting to be in thick with Stripers but it wasn't to be so. I started off throwing gulps and other plastics. Nothing was taking the bait so I remembered last year fishing the same side and decided to use my trusting deep diving shad. The long bill sent the hard bait down about 10ft. Perfect depth it seemed since no more than 2 minutes had passed trolling when I hear that sweet, sweet sound of the drag screaming on my Spinfisher V 3500. I reel up a healthy 19 inch Striper. My first Striper of the season!!!!! Hell yeah, I get her measured up and put on the stringer.

Another hour passed with nothing to show so I get back to trolling the long billed shad. Next thing I know I hear the drag screaming and thing I have something huge on. I had to juggle the rod and paddle since the current was pushing me into the pylons and the fish decided to go on the other side
of the pylon.... awesome.

I yanked that damn fish as hard as I could to get it out of the damn pylons. Finally I get it to the boat and she was smaller than I thought she would be but a nice keeper at 21 inches.
I decided to call it a night since I finally have my first Stripers of the year!!!

Until Next Time
