Do It Yourself Paracord Jig/Fly

So I saw this someone with a paracord Jig way back when. I always wondered how they made it thinking it would be a fun little project that seemed quite simple. Well, it is!!! Not sure how well they work but I thought why not try one. I happened to have a couple hundred feet of paracord from bracelets, slings, rod holders and pieces left over from those projects.  I grabbed one of the tri-colored ones and decided to get to work. This will guide you step by step to make a Paracord Fly/Jig.

You can get the paracord

You can buy 3 get 1 free using checkout code: 1FREENOW

The tools I used are simple and are laying around. A knife, strip of paracord, lighter and a regular J hook. (Super Glue can be used as well)

Measure out a length of cord that is a bit longer than the shank of the hook

Its measured out and I always put the end with the paracord strands at the curve of the hook

Pull out the strands just a bit because you are going to push the shank of the hook through the paracord and it will push up the strands.

Once this hook is  at the top measure out a bit and cut off the excess so the eye of the hook is visible.

Once the eye of the hook is out of the end and visible, pull out the strands of cord a bit so they are able to be seen.

Use the lighter to melt the cord/cover to the eye/shank of the hook. You can also use gorilla glue/super glue to keep the cord and hook together so it wont slip.

After burning the end of the cord  it should stick well to the hook

Next, get your knife and lightly brush the paracord strands. Dont put much force on them and slowly rake the coils out so they start to fluff. At this point you can add some glue to the inside of the cover for added adhesion.

This is how it looks when finished. Its something simple that is pretty easy to do. A nice quick rainy day project.

There are multiple ways to create these types of jigs and you can add weight using a split shot to them or just leave them like this. Fun, Quick and easy plus its rewarding when you catch something that you made yourself. Ill try to add a video later on. Hope you guys enjoyed this and will try it at home.

TIGHT LINES!!!!
